After several fail to start due to a flat battery, usually caused by leaving the
interior lights on, and several visits to Polar Ford, I finally took it to C D Bramalls in Batley,
who replaced the battery without any hassle. |

First "Service" by Polar Ford, Wakefield Generally OK Cost £143.61
However they did overfill the engine oil by a whole litre, and charged me £33 for the 7.5
litres of their "Castrol workshop oil" rather than use the Ford oil from their own Parts Dept that
would have cost around £15 for 10 litres . I got no response when I raised the issue
informally, just fobbed off with talk. |

Puncture destroys the rear nearside tyre. Tyres not readily available, most
stockists are quoting me over a week to get a tyre, finally HQ in Wakefield can get one in 2 days
at a cost of £78.14. It would appear that these Goodyear Cargo G26 tyres are not easily
available. |

Major Service at Polar Ford, yet another battle. I queried the engine oil,
and got the response that I could provide my own. Well this was good news as I could now put in
Millers XSS at around £12 per can. Millers oils are far better quality than the stock
stuff these people normally keep, and Millers provide a free laboratory service to analyse their
oils during use and will provide a report on the oil's condition. The screen washer switch was
becoming difficult to operate and the "cleaned" it Polar replaced a washer jet that was
clogging, but charged me for it rather than replace it under guarantee. Generally OK Cost
£134.42 |

4 new tyres Continental Vanco 195 75 16 £264 The fronts
were down to about 2mm, not illegal but it is winter, and a slow puncture (that turned out to be a
nail down the sidewall) to the rear offside prompted the decision. The rear nearside had a very
slow drop in pressure, which turned out to be a nail square though the tread. So, needing 3
tyres and a puncture repair, I decided to replace all 4. |

Service Light comes on Well that's unexpected !!! There is nearly
3000 miles before the service is due, and we are in mid Italy. It is late Friday evening, and we
try to make contact with Ford There was a sound typical of the front brake pads being worn out,
so perhaps it is related to that ??? So I buy a set of front brake pads (102 Euros - £72
) only to find that there is still plenty of pad on the ones removed. Perhaps we had picked up
a stone ??? Anyway yet another tip. The brake kit comes with replacement bolts with a 12mm
head, but the ones originally factory fitted were 13mm head. I finally get a message back from
Ford that the "Service Light" is not rigidly tied to anything that is being monitored, they say it
just comes on. I follow the instructions in the handbook to reset the service light |

22nd February 2005 37350 miles |
Severe pinking from the engine and glow plug light flashing slowly Now we are
getting close to panic mode Once again more messages to Ford from a cold mountain side on
the isle of Elba They recommend taking it to a Ford Dealer. So, I have a look around and
see the Fuel Filter Indicator is in the red. Perhaps dirty fuel clogging the filter. Removing it is
easy with a unscrew of the large plastic ring at the top of the filter. I pour out the contents to
see large amounts of redish brown sludge. Now we read the TIS. It says that after replacing the
filter the system has to be repressurised using a special tool. What !!! on a snow swept mountain
in Italy !!! Think about it .... Let's fill the filter to the top with fresh diesel, refit it
and see what happens... Great it works. Get new filter later from local Ford Dealer who later
I discover has sold me one for the TDi engine not the TDCi. |

I provided the oil, Miller's XSS again. I reported the screenwasher switch again and they said
they had fixed it. |

Air Conditioning not working Symptoms are that the pump relay does not switch
to connect the pump clutch. I find the fluid sensor is not detecting any pressure. So off
to Polar, who don't seem to know what to do with an AirCon Tourneo. So off to Benfield Ford in
Leeds, who seem to know more. They find a leak and replace a pipe. It takes a few days, but
they did it all under warranty I provided the oil, Miller's XSS again. I reported the
screenwasher switch again and they said they had fixed it. |

around £13 per can. Polar charged me £143.12 |

17th May 2006 68917 Miles |
Another "Service" by Polar Ford, Now move to Castleford Generally OK Cost
£159.88 - a massive increase. I made the mistake of not getting a Quote when I booked it
in, so they charged me top whack. Even though I provided the oil, Miller's XSS again. I
tried to get the wheel nuts replaced under warranty, but Steve said I would have to approach Ford
myself. |

Power Steering Pulley failure It looks like the bearing has overheated, and
melted the plastic housing causing the bearing to sieze and the belt to wear through. Replaced

Now well out of guarantee, so I'll do my own ordinary services Miller's XSS

useful, though I need to wheel the beam down when there is oncoming traffic. |

Suddenly dead, no response from the remote to open the doors. Use the key to

batteries.. |

4 new tyres Well I thought I had done really well out of the Continentals and
nearly went for straight replacement However I took up a "4 for the price of 3" offer that
Michelin were running at the time. Read how I get on with the Michelins in the "Living with the
Tourneo" section

Yet another Service needed, done by myself Miller's XSS again, Fuel Filter,
Pollen Filter and Fuel Filter. The "O" ring on the sump plug was getting worn, so I decided to
replace it. What a farce !! Ford cannot supply the "O" ring, only a complete sump plug After
trailing round likely factors in Castleford, I was finally sent to one near Xscape ( the liesure
place" The guy there found exactly what I needed, but because it was lunchtime and the staff we
on their breaks, he told me to "F** off " and not disturb his break again. I said I would drop
him a packet of crisps next time I pass by. |

28th August 2007 99504 Miles |
The "Engine Warning" light came on !!! Flashing amber glow plug light I
had just been driving uphill out of Huddersfield gently, no load = strange I stopped, had a look
round, nothing obvious, restarted the engine OK Next week, driving out of Sheffield, uphill
towards Castleton, same thing. Strange !!! |

4th February 2008 109010 Miles |
Suddenly the engine started to overheat, while accelerating onto a motorway. off
the scale, engine shut itself off. I survived. I discovered I could make progress at tickover,
any faster and it went off the scale. I found that parked at the roadside with the engine on
tickover the temperature gradually comes down. Power steering OK. No water loss, tank is full.
Heater blows cold. Water pump belt goes round and looks OK. Is it the water pump impellor that has
come off the shaft? Investigation finds the Water Pump has stripped its splines, and the Power
Steering Pump has a worn drive. Replace both, all in now fine except my wallet!!
See the detailed pictures of the Water Pump and Power Steering Pump
